The 1st Annual 6dogrees.com Dogs 4 Dogs fundraiser was a great success. Thank you everyone that donated, attended, and volunteered. The Dogs 4 Dogs fundraiser would not have been successful without your kindness and generosity. This was our first time hosting a dog rescue fundraiser and we were very appreciative of everyone’s support.Thanks to you the event was a great success and we raised $3,800 for the dogs!

The money raised supports vetting of shelter dogs,transports,and vet bills. We wanted to give insight on  transporters role also. Transporters are the link that connects deathrow dogs with rescues. Without transporters many dogs would die.I see them as the “unsung hereos” that put in endless miles and long hours on the road to get the shelter dogs safely to rescues. Donations keep their “motor running” and their work depends soley on donations. Transport is truly the bridge between a dog living or a dog dying in a shelter. They need our support to continue the efforts to save animals from shelters. Without transport we can not save the volumes of animals that need our help. We also wanted to raise awareness for shelter dogs,chained dogs, and to voice to end animal abuse.

Four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them.

The hope is one day to have a compassionate world that will embrace animals. Until then adopt from a shelter. Support rescue over buying a dog. Like Bob Barker says “Spay and neuter your pets” this will end the need for so many shelters.

Dr. Barbara Gomez first joined West Seattle Animal Hospital in 2001 and rejoined us in 2006.   She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University.   She is also certified in veterinary acupuncture.

Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Gomez earned a degree in Soil Conservation and Land Use Planning from the University of Florida.  She was the first female firefighter in the Florida Keys Volunteer Fire Department.  She graduated from nursing school and joined the Air Force working as an RN in emergency and operating rooms.  In her spare time she enjoys home improvement projects, gardening, sewing, cooking and reading.
She has three dogs (Bob, Charlotte and Dixie) and five cats (Effie, Frank, Lily and Old Man).
